Final Project

 B̂ān บ้าน

B̂ān is Thai for home, and B̂ān B̂ān is a saying in Thai describing something as simple, easy, or ordinary.  B̂ān บ้าน is an attempt at making living far from home a little less lonesome. As of this writing, it has been around 8 years since I last visited, and I've developed a longing for the small things that makes home -home. What I have created here is an ordinary looking sweatpants, that creates a small feeling of being home: being bothered, whether by  your mom, your grandma, or your dog, as soon as you sit down and make yourself comfortable.

The build is quite simple, I followed this guide to make a DIY pressure sensor and clipped it on to my sweatpants. The Arduino rests in the pocket.

I had failed attempt using a button with cardboard as a binary pressure sensor. It was very fragile and uncomfortable.

The arduino just reads the sensor and forward the input to a python script using pyserial. The python code uses pygame to play multiple sound at once on my laptop. Track list includes: dog, mom, and grandma sounds. Voices are acted by me in cases where I cannot attain samples of.

The laptop could be consider as a part of the setup as it fits the narrative of getting bothered only when it would be inconvenience for you

The choice of sweatpants is because it seems to be a popular home-wear. In Thailand, you would see more shorts-type attire instead because of the heat. However living in cold Canada, I have not invested in comfy-shorts
